>> it's time for obama to panic. we did this a couple of weeks ago when the polls were the other way, and then it was time for romney to panic. it's probably not time for anybody to panic. this race is now what it was weeks ago, months ago, and that's a fairly close race it will on election day. it's decided by two, three percentage points. we've seen the bounces and swings. this one is going in romney's direction. it appears if you look at the battleground states, it still favors obama. nothing has fundamentally changed. if things keep move inning this direction and this just isn't a reaction to one very bad night for obama last week, well, then, we talk about something else. it's not clear that's what happened yet. >> don't tell that to andrew sullivan, because he is having a breakdown in "the daily beast" today. he laments what he calls devastating new positill numberd he calls the president too air grant to take a core campaign responsibility too seriously, too arrogant to give his supporters kwwhat they deserve.

after president obama's poor showing against mitt romney in denver this past week, democrats are counting on biden to pull out a "win". vice president biden will do very, very well. he knows what has been going on. he is in touch with the american public, and i'm just hopeful mr. ryan will tell the truth. romney's former debate coach gave his opinion on how the next debate will go. i am sure vp biden got a call from the white house that said we didnt go after gov. romney as much so you have got to turn up the heat. i think both men will be very prepared. biden says he's ready. so all debates are tough but i'm looking forward to it. i really am. foreign and domestic policy issues both will be in play thursday night. it's the only vice presidential debate before the november 6th election. i'm cristina mutchler reporting >> chicago peace activist protested the 11th anniversary of the war in afghanistan today . the protesters marched from tribune tower to obama campaign headquarters. they called for an end to the war in afghanistan... and more money for jobs in the education and health care.

president obama among likely voters leads by three points, 49 to 46. that's down from a five-point edge that he had in our poll just about three weeks ago. if you also look at the nbc "wall street journal" maris swing state polls, he's pulled even with president obama in the state of florida. that's the biggest swing state, 29 electoral votes. if you go then to virginia, he's also pulled within two points in virginia. he had been down four or five before. the bad news for romney in these three polls is that in ohio, a state that is critical, romney strategists think they have to win florida and ohio to get to 270 electoral votes. he's still down eight percentage points, and what we've seen across these polls is that obama is increasingly competitive with romney on who would do best to handle the economy. but the fact that we've got a little bit of movement nationally and movement in florida and virginia tells me that there's still some play in this electorate, in this contest, and that's the hope for romney going into this debate tonight. >> what do yo

one of them we have moved into the obama category. but we have polled in all of them over the last couple of weeks. the president has leads ranging anywhere from two to eight points. but what was interesting, we asked a few other questions. including job approval rating, romney favorability, and who wins on the economy. in three states, the president had a job approval rating of 49 or above. romney's unfavorable rating was higher than his favorable rating, and the president led romney on the economy. in three of those stays, iowa, ohio, new hampshire. just one state did you have the president's job approval rating 48% or over and romney winning on the issue of the economy. that's north carolina. if you look at it that way and go to the map to 270, what does that mean, and you put those four states into the respective categories, and look at. this the president for suur sho. romney a long way to go has to sweep the rest. there are five left in the background. florida, virginia, wisconsin, colorado, nevada. this is where if romney does
